Eng. Said bin Hamad Al Riyami is a self-made Omani entrepreneur originally from Izki. His rigorous professional journey began in the oil and gas sector within the Empty Quarter, advancing to become a certified Driller with global industry giants. In 2004, driven by a vision for independence, he founded "Best International Construction", later executing over 3,000 projects. His portfolio has since expanded into a comprehensive group of companies spanning architectural consultancy, interior design ("100 Creators"), real estate management, premium finishes, and media. Balancing education, family, and business, Eng. Said stands as a testament to resilience and determination, continually striving for global excellence and actively contributing to the development of the Sultanate of Oman.
Said bin Hamad Al Riyami grew up in the Sultanate of Oman, Izki state, Al Nizar village. Born in 1978, he was raised amidst nature, mountains, and valleys. He experienced the simple life of the countryside, rural villages, modest people, and a humble family that barely earned their daily sustenance at the time.
Said completed his primary education at Omar bin Al-Khattab Primary School during the evening shift, and studied for two full years in tents during the school's renovations. At that time, the school was characterized by a spirit of seriousness, diligence, and respect between student and teacher, and success rates were high despite the lack of facilities and educational means, relying on the simplest things.
He then completed his preparatory education, currently known as grades seven to nine, at Mohammed bin Jaafar Al-Azkawi School.
Afterwards, he moved to the final secondary stage, grades ten to twelve, majoring in sciences, at Omar bin Al-Khattab Secondary School for Boys during the morning shift.
Transitioning to the workforce, Said Al Riyami’s first job was with KCA Deutag in the Empty Quarter (1996-1997). It was a radical change, marking his first time working far from his village and family.
At the time, mobile phones and landlines were unavailable in those areas. Work involved 12-hour shifts for 42 consecutive days followed by only 12 days of leave, as oil exploration required continuous operation.
After 19 months, he was laid off following the loss of the contract. He then moved to Muscat to work in fire safety engineering while honing his English skills at the British Council and Polyglot Institute.
Eight months later, he returned to the concession areas with PDO due to his outstanding performance. Two years later, he joined MB Petroleum Services (MBPS) for a better offer and a 3-week rotation, which allowed him to pursue further studies despite the challenges of balancing work and education.
His dedication led him to become a Driller after earning the IWCF certification. He subsequently joined Schlumberger, working in both the Frac and Wireline fields.
In 2000, he began balancing work and studies, and by 2004, he ventured into entrepreneurship—a journey detailed in his upcoming book, "Ambition". Despite the exhaustion of managing family, work, and studies, his persistence helped him overcome these hardships.
The university stage was one of the most difficult periods, demanding a strenuous balance between studies, work, entrepreneurship, and family. It was a journey of great mental and physical effort, where passion and faith were the primary drivers. Determination turned these challenges into a foundation for future success and legacy.
The idea of establishing companies began in 2002 while working in concession areas, driven by the ambition to create independent entities based on planning and development.
In 2004, Afzal International Construction Company was established in Muscat – Izki, and later relocated to Muscat in mid-2006 with the support of CEO Mr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Riyami.
The company has executed over 3,000 projects across government and private sectors.
